Tillkomsten av John Rutters nya storslagna verk I&rsquoll make me a world bär på skapelseberättelsens egen glöd. Texten – den amerikanske poeten James Weldon Johnsons vision av hur världen formas ur intet – har följt Rutter i många år men först nu fått sin fulla klangdräkt. I verket möts gospelns glöd jazzens rytm och Rutters egen ljusa körstil i en mäktig hyllning till livets början och den mänskliga värdighet som musiken alltid söker bekräfta.

När Storkyrkan nu står värd för Sverigepremiären av I&rsquoll make me a world blir det en av årets verkligt stora kyrkomusikaliska händelser – inte minst eftersom tonsättaren själv står på dirigentpulten. John Rutter återvänder hit efter tidigare bejublade konserter och hans musik fyller återigen kyrkorummet med sin varma mänskliga och samtidigt himmelska klang.

I programmet klingar även Rutters Magnificat en jublande och färgrik tolkning av Marias lovsång. Här möter gregoriansk stillhet festliga rytmer och folklig glädje – en musik som bär både jordens puls och himlens strålglans.

The creation of John Rutters magnificent new work Ill make me a world carries the glow of the Genesis story itself. The text – American poet James Weldon Johnsons vision of how the world is shaped from nothing – has accompanied Rutter for many years but only now has it received its full sonic form. In the work the fire of gospel the rhythms of jazz and Rutters own luminous choral style converge in a mighty tribute to the beginning of life and the human dignity that music always seeks to affirm.

With Storkyrkan now hosting the Swedish premiere of Ill make me a world this becomes one of the years truly significant events in sacred music – not least because the composer himself will be on the podium. John Rutter returns here after earlier celebrated concerts and his music once again fills the church with its warm human and yet heavenly sound.

The programme also features Rutters Magnificat a jubilant and richly coloured setting of Marys song of praise. Here Gregorian stillness meets festive rhythms and folk-like joy – music that carries both the pulse of the earth and the radiance of heaven.
